The Port Colborne Museum under the direction of the City of the Port Colborne and in conjunction with the Wainfleet Historical Society and the Marshville Festival board of directors established a working committee in February 2009 to promote and plan for the Bicentennial of the War of 1812-1814.
The rededication of the Zavitz mill memorial will be a central theme of the celebration. This mill was active throughout the war and was one of the few in the peninsula not destroyed by the marauders during the conflict. The dedication date is Sunday June 17th, 2 p.m. H.H.Knoll Lakeview Park.
The celebration will also include an interactive period recruiting tent/camp site including a period military band, where citizens will be able to pledge their support for 200 more years of friendship and cooperation along the world's longest undefended border.
