| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Monday, September 19, 2011 NIAGARA REGION, NIAGARA FRONTIER–The battle that happened in our backyard is going to be on the big screen, Sunday, September 25, 2011, at Brock University’s David S. Howes Theatre. In partnership with Brock and WNED, the Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council is thrilled to show the highly-anticipated two-hour documentary that is narrated by Joe Mantegna (Criminal Minds, The Godfather: Part III) and features expert-interviews from Niagara historians, authors and professors—all filmed right here in the region. The story of how Canada became a nation airs on PBS stations nationwide on October 10, 2011, at 9:00 p.m., but this event allows the public to see it first and indulge in a wine tasting of Palatine Hills Estate’s new 1812 vintages. "Niagara is 1812," says Legacy Council CEO, Brian Merrett. "We have been anxiously waiting to see WNED's film and when we got the opportunity to host a preview-screening, we jumped on it. This is our way of bringing Niagara residents out to ignite the excitement that we've been building up for the past year," says Merrett. "This film will certainly spark that 1812 interest when it airs nationwide, as well." |
The event wouldn't be possible without the support of Brock University and WNED.
Doors open at 1:00 p.m. and the film begins at 2:00p.m. with an intermission. This event is open to the public with tickets being sold on the Legacy Council’s website, www.discover1812.com or at their offices at Niagara Region Headquarters for $10. Proceeds from the event go towards the LC’s marketing efforts and events for the Niagara Region and Niagara Frontier.
