FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Laura Secord Homestead, Queenston Wednesday, shooting a series of films commemorating the War of 1812 Bicentennial Celebrations. When completed, the series of films will be used to inform and educate about the history of 200 years of peace between Canada and the United States, and will also promote upcoming War of 1812 Bicentennial events being held in Niagara-on-the-Lake from 2012 through 2014. Pringle is the on-camera host for the series being produced and directed by Mario Iaizzo, and is "happy to be involved in this project". Valerie will be working with the Niagara-on-the-Lake War of 1812 Bicentennial Committee and its Video Team to assist in promoting the many Niagara-on-the-Lake War of 1812 Bicentennial events. The completed videos will serve as a legacy for future generations and each segment will have an educational component that can be used in schools across Canada to teach children and educators about the events of the War of 1812, and how they started us on the path of becoming a great nation. |

The Niagara-on-the-Lake War of 1812 Bicentennial Committee is composed of over 100 volunteers, many of whom have been involved for more than three years, is very active in planning the commemorative events of the War of 1812. This series of three videos features a unique Laura Secord script co-written by Caroline McCormick and Barbara Worthy which will highlight the Niagara Parks Commission Laura Secord Homestead in Queenston and the upcoming Laura Secord Trek on June 22, 2013. A segment on the American Occupation and the Burning of Niagara which occurs on December 10, 2013 was introduced by Tony Chisholm. Jim Alexander and Nathaniel Metherel gave details of the Battle of Queenston Heights Commemoration October 12, 13 and 14, 2012. All of these events take place exactly 200 years to the dates and places they occurred! The Niagara-on-the-Lake War 1812 Bicentennial Committee would like to thank the Niagara Parks Commission and Laura Secord Homestead Staff for their assistance and use of the Laura Secord Homestead for the filming. Valerie Pringle is one of Canada's best-known and most respected broadcasters. She hosted CBC's news and current affairs program MIDDAY and then moved to CTV to co-host Canada AM and W-5. Valerie has co-produced and hosted several documentaries and series for Discovery Channel, Vision, CTV and CBC including Valerie Pringle Has Left the Building, Test of Faith and The Canadian Antique Roadshow. She is very active in many not-for-profit Boards and Foundations including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the Trans Canada Trail. She was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2006 for her contributions to the communications field and her volunteer work.
