| Three gardens in Niagara County celebrate relationship with Canada
By Don Glynn NIAGARA FALLS — Three War of 1812 Peace Gardens in Niagara County — to commemorate two centuries of harmonious relations between the U.S. and Canada — are now included on a new trail map to promote tourism. The map released Wednesday is a joint project of the New York State Regional Tourism Offices and the International Peace Garden Foundation. The area gardens, designed as fixtures in the communities, are located behind the Little Yellow House on Center Street in Lewiston, in Falkner Park on Main Street in Youngstown and on the Niagara University campus, between St. Vincent’s Hall and Alumni Hall. |
Nick Mattera, communications manager for the Niagara Tourism & Convention Corp., said the full-color map identifies specific locations of each garden, as well as providing a detailed look into the historical significance. Mattera said the fully integrated map contains a QR code that takes visitors to the website for the trail — 1812.ipgf.org The trail map also is available online at www.jpfg.org. A special audio component allows visitors to dial in at any point to get more information on each site. All of the gardens are scheduled to be in bloom by spring 2012. Arlene White, executive director of the Binational Economic & Tourism Alliance, said the project, started in 2009, will add gardens throughout the three-year bicentennial that ends in 2014. The NTCC collaborated with county tourism offices in Erie, Genesee, Monroe, Wayne and Oswego to produce the trail map. View the article source |
