Funding

The Legacy Council was able to be born through seed money put forth by the Regional Municipality of Niagara (Niagara Region). The $200,000 went towards staff, administration, advertising and all other costs associated with being active. The seed money was leveraged to help secure other government funding assistance. The Legacy Council was successful in obtaining grant funding from various sources such as the Ontario Trillium Foundation and other provincial funds, the federal government’s 1812 Commemoration Fund pot, the Cultural Capital of Canada funding (2012), the Niagara County (US) Legislature, Visit Buffalo Niagara, Erie County (NY),

The Bicentennial marked the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and the 200 years of peace between Canada and the United States that followed.

The Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council was created in August of 2007 as a cross-border non-profit organization. This website serves as the official archive of three years of events.
