St. Catharines 1812 TALL SHIPS Visit

Port Dalhousie Harbour

This was an event that the Legacy Council organized / brought to Niagara. Stemming from a collaborative initiative between the other “legacy councils” in Ontario (Brockville, Toronto, Hamilton….) this event was part of the 1812 Tall Ships Tour across Southwest Ontario. Together the other 1812 groups all applied to the provincial government for a “blockbuster grant” that allowed each group to obtain funds for their event.

What took place

The St.Catharines event was a huge success on Canada Day weekend in 2013. The event drew in over 8,000 people over the course of the two days. All proceeds from the admissions ($5 adults $2 kids) were donated to the United Way of St. Catharines & District.

The ships that docked at Port Dalhousie Harbour were the Lynx, the Pride of Baltimore II and the Unicorn.

The 2nd Lincoln Militia set up camp in the middle of the action; interacting with the public and firing volleys on the hour. There was live entertainment from the Seasick Sailors, Niagara Symphony Orchestra and the Niagara Regional Police Pipe Band performed a couple times during the day.
